USS Leyte Gulf is a TICONDEROGA class AEGIS Guided Missile Cruiser home-ported in Norfolk VA. She was commissioned in Fort Lauderdale, , FL in 1987. Named after the Battle of Leyte Gulf , which is said to have been "one of the greatest naval battles this world has ever seen".
